We Sort.

About We Sort.

I’m Ben, a small business consultant. We can work together to make your livelihood more enjoyable and your business more profitable.

I help clients organise their work and their working lives.

This includes exploring their version of success, examining ambitions at a strategic level, scrutinising and fine-tuning the daily administrative tasks of a modern business, and ensuring every client has a great website that does the job it was built for.

Since 2009, I have worked with a variety of small, creative businesses across a range of sectors: furniture, design, art, film, food and construction.

If you have time to look at my CV and manifesto, you’ll understand that I'm a pragmatic optimist who believes in the power of discussion, iteration and (evolving) milestones.

I grew up on a dairy farm in Upstate New York, went to art school and did a degree in theatrical design. My focus switched from art to operations, though I continue to work with artists and creatives. Before setting up We Sort in 2009, I had a number of roles in the furniture industry, managed logistics for a charity and began my ongoing fascination with coding and building.

Figuring out sensible and efficient processes has always been a preoccupation. With We Sort, I do that every day with an exciting roster of clients, from architects and cabinet makers to fine artists and podcast producers.

The ‘we’ in We Sort relates to the collaborative nature of the work we (you and I) can do together.

Where to begin?

I enjoy meeting anyone who thinks their business and working life could be better. Email or call and we'll find a time.

We'll start by taking an hour to get to know each other. We’ll get specific about problems and opportunities. Some clients approach me with written briefs and a rich understanding of their options. Many are seeking accountability. Others know there must be ways to improve certain aspects of the way they work, and want help identifying the issues and solutions.

If you ask any of my clients about their experience of working with me (and please do!), I suspect they'll tell you that I ask a lot of questions, about both the big picture and the minutiae.

During out meeting, we’ll discuss whether you’d like to take the conversation further and how. I'll write a proposal covering what I understand about your requirements at this point. This will include a scope of work, expectations on how we'll proceed, fees and terms.

We'll always start with some flexible hourly billing, but sometimes it makes sense to switch to a monthly rate where we have an expectation of time, though that will ebb and flow.

Our contact may be through face-to-face meetings or workshops, emails or phone calls – whatever fits with your schedule and needs, and can evolve along with our working relationship.
